I just got back from the grocery store. People always look at me like I'm nuts for bringing a toddler and a baby with me to the store. Ha! But what do you do? You gotta eat, right? Good thing I'm making good shoppers out of them! Before I go to the store, I make a list of meals that we're going to eat for the next 2-2 1/2 weeks, so I don't have to drag them to the store as much, and whatever I need here and there, Tim's happy to pick it up on his way home from work. Meal planning- it's key!
Today is the beginning of healthy eating for our family. I realized yesterday that, I'm the one that is buying the groceries and cooking our meals, so technically I'm in control of what my family puts in their bellies- funny I'm just now thinking about that. It all started when I went to the library last weekend and picked up a few cookbooks. I was getting in a rut and felt like I was making the same things over and over again. Anyway, I got some really great casserole ideas. I love casseroles! They're so easy. I also picked up, Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld. It's my new favorite cookbook because it's real recipes. It's not fancy things that you'll never actually make, it's things I can truely see our family eating. Holden's pretty picky about the fruits and veggies he'll eat, (as is my sweet husband--not a veggie guy) so I thought this cookbook would help me sort of "start over" by gradually slipping fruits and veggies in every meal. Suffice to say, I loved the cookbook so much that, it HAS to be purchased! I'm actually really excited about my new cooking venture. I'll be making my purees this weekend. (Reminds me...I forgot to get freezer bags...)
So wish me (and my family) luck as we try some new things. May our tastebuds be happy!
