Our sweet Mim passed away late Saturday, November 8th. She was Tim's grandmother and truly, the most kind woman I have ever known. Her life was one that taught by example and gentle words of wisdom. When I read about the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31, none more sooner comes to mind than she. And when I read about love in 1 Corinthians 13, it will forever have another meaning to me because Mim so effortlessly showed God's love to every one around her.
(4) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. (5) It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. (6) Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (7) It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (8) Love never fails.
We got the first flight out on Sunday--12:30pm. Not soon enough. We spent the next 6 days surrounded by family. We loved, we ate, we remembered, we laughed, and we cried. It was really beautiful. I think whenever there is a loss, you always reassess your life. You have to. You should. It makes you think about what you would want people to remember and say about you. What would my legacy be? What would my son and husband say about me? Oh how I long to be like Mim. I think we are all longing to be like her. But as I surveyed the room one evening, it was so clear to me. I could literally see pieces of Mim embedded in the family, and it too, was beautiful.
Mim was special. You can ask any one who knew her and they would all tell you the same thing. She was sweet. She was a lady. In all my life, I have never found one who fits the mold of Proverbs 31 more perfectly than Mim.
(10) A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. (11) Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. (12) She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life...(17) She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks...(20) She opens her arms for to the poor and extends her hands to the needy...(25) She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. (26) She speaks wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. (27) She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. (28) Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and her praies her; (29) "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." (30) Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. (31) Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
