Two.

I remember December 9, 2007 just like it was yesterday. Not because I was in labor for 35 hours (something you never forget), but because it was the day I met my son. He was placed into my arms at 12:26am. He was 6 pounds, 6 ounces, 19 3/4 inches long. And he is an incredible human being. If I were to sum up the first year of his life in one word, I'd say "change" and I'm sure that's a word most first time parents would usewhen recalling those first 12 months. Every day he changed. And every day I changed along with him. It was a beautiful year. This second year has been quite a ride- one I have thoroughly enjoyed and if I could sum it up in one word, I'd say that, toddlers are very "spongy." Don't be fooled, when you think they're not listening or learning- they are. Holden can sing all three verses of "Amazing Grace" and if that won't make you cry, you're made of stone :) The other morning as we were eating breakfast, he looked at me and said, "Our God is great." I wanted to squeeze him. This is such a precious age. The age of innocence and wonder. I swear it's my favorite (but I'm almost sure I'll say that at every age, as I know I have thus far). I can even carry on a conversation with him...The things he says, I've found to be quite insightful and honest. Since birth I could tell that he was going to be tenderhearted and of all the things that have changed in his short little life, that is one thing that has been a constant. Some kids embrace a new sibling, others...we'll you've seen Super Nanny. Holden, on the other hand, was overjoyed when he became a big brother. The second we pulled up from the hospital and I saw Holden peering out the dining room window, he already looked so grown to me. The past 7 weeks, since Fount has joined the family, have been so wonderful. Brothers are a special thing. Holden is constantly loving on Fount. Whenever Fount cries, Holden is quickly to his side with a quiet, "Shhh...It's ok, Brother Fount...It's ok..." He still loves to shake Fount's hand and say, "Nice tah meetcha!" He's such a helper. Going pee pee in the potty has really become the event at our house. He wakes up dry in the morning and from his nap. And he goes several times, on top of that, during the day. Today we were at the mall and he mention needing to go twice, but of course there are no bathrooms in the mall, but those found way back in the creepy maintenance corner of the department stores. It's like the niceness of Nordstrom stops just shy of the bathrooms. So next time I know to scout out a decent potty before all the shopping begins. Holden's quickly become my little friend and I love it. I'm anxious to see what this next year of his life will in tell. Blessed, no doubt!
