So today didn't go as easily as I had hoped. I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part. "Pah Pah's" been Holden's companion since practically birth. Last night went surprisingly well. He had a little difficulty at first, going to sleep, but he made it through like a champ. Naptime, today, however was a different story. I think he realized that the partial paci really wasn't cutting it and that he needed the real thing. After an hour of trying to put him down, I finally called Tim and after talking to him, realized that now may not be the best time to try to get rid of his "pah pah." We have two big trips coming up, as well as a move. I can just picture our "habit breaking" on the plane, can't you? So, after all that is past us, we'll try again.
This is what he did to them (if you can zoom in).

This is what I did to them...

As for now, mommy guilt got to me. I bought four new pacis and these as a peace offering. I think it worked.

We broke Lily's paci addiction (at age 3 mind you) when on vacation...per our pediatrician's suggestion. Change of scenery often helps them forget. That being said, she was ORNERY the entire time (but never once asked for one). My advice -- either break him now, well in advance of the baby, or let him keep them for a while....you don't want him to associate his brother with his loss of a paci (and think that the baby stole his!). GOOD LUCK!
