Holden and I just got home from the grocery store. Instead of sharing Thanksgiving with our family here in DC, we'll be staying home this year. They have all been sick this past week and now, my little cousin, Wade, has come down with pink eye and possible strep. So, needless to say, we regrettably decided to stay home. But we're looking forward to it. This will be Holden's very first Thanksgiving. I can't believe it, but he's actually big enough to even participate in the meal.
I put off going to the grocery store until this morning, thinking it would be a complete mad house, kind of like it is on Christmas Eve. But, surprisingly, it was quite the opposite. The parking lot, of course, was packed, but with happy people. Funny how these are probably the same people giving you the bird on Christmas. Any how, inside, I found every one pushing their shopping carts with a smile, not the courtesy kind of smile, but the one that comes from within. As I was trying to wrangle my own cart and a googling baby (he's in awe of the balloons at the store), I thought to myself about how different Thanksgiving is from every other holiday. It really is a time for thanks. I don't know if it's because of the economy, but it seems to me that it's causing people to think about what's really important--family.

Happy first Thanksgiving, Holden! I hope you enjoy feeding yourself turkey. :) That is...if you'll touch it! Have a great day with you mom and dad.
