Colorless

This is what we woke up to this morning. I feel like I'm in a black and white movie. I love that.

our backyard

It started snowing yesterday afternoon and was still snowing when I went to bed at 11:30pm (Fount wanted to hang out. He wasn't listening to reason). It really is just beautiful. It would probably be even more beautiful if my house was fully stocked with every thing I needed. We're out of milk...cheese...well those are the main things because that's what I use to make all the other things. I'm from the south, you use milk and cheese in every recipe. I plan on going to the grocery store today when Tim gets home from work. Getting the boys out in this, along with a slew of groceries would be way too much fun for a single day. As wonderful as they are, it's always so much faster to just go on my own. For the past year or more I've been shopping by meal- talk about a headache saver money saver. I plan enough meals for two weeks, which sounds like a lot, but when you eat as many leftovers as we do, it totally works. I'm going to make chicken enchiladas, roast, vegetarian chili (which lasts several meals), and somewhere in one of the meals I'll make Holden's fav- mashed potatoes. I'm big into casseroles. They're tasty and they reheat well. I also like to have a dessert sittin around for emergencies. I'm craving a good 'ole pecan pie with a side of ice cream. Yum! I'm definitely making that! At Thanksgiving I tried making my pies with the ready made pie crust, but it just didn't work for me. I felt like it just wasn't getting done, so even though it's a bit of a pain, I'm just going to stick with homemade. It's a given that it's always going to taste good. Plus, it always reminds me of my precious Grandmother...the smell...the taste...the flour covering her hardworking hands...I can't wait to see her again! What a special lady. Always giving me kitchen tips. I remember the first thing I ever made with her- snickerdoodles. I thought they were so much fun to make- shaking the dough in cinnamon and sugar. I look forward to doing that with the boys. Maybe that's something Holden and I can do while we're snowed in this weekend. We're expecting another big snow on Friday and Saturday. I think this is the most winter we've had since we moved here in 2006.
