Fount tried a bazillion pacis, except for the Soothie because that brand belonged to Holden. Up until now, we had stuck with the Nuk, which was fine, but the texture always seemed to bother me. It was so plastic feeling. I don't know how else to describe it, but he just never could keep it in his mouth and it never really did it for him. So, I tried the BornFree pacifiers and they were perfect. The texture is hard to describe, but it's on the soft side and it's light enough that Fount can keep it in his mouth, even when he's in his cradle. They're totally worth the try, if you're looking for a paci that does the trick.
I remember the first time I gave Holden a paci. It was during one of our 2am diaper change/feeding sessions and he needed to eat NOW, so, naturally, he was crying and I didn't want him to wake Tim up so I stuck the paci in his mouth- before the "2 Week Mark." Little did I know that it was going to be in his mouth for 2 years. I was so afraid to give him a pacifier before the "2 Week Mark." Why is that the phrase you hear so much regarding pacifiers and bottles? You hear that it's all about them establishing a good latch (if you're nursing) and not giving them nipple confusion. Whatever. This time around, Fount got a paci in the hospital and I refused to feel guilty about it. Hey- a girl's gotta sleep :)
Well, yesterday, a week after Holden turned 2, Tim and I decided that it was time. OK, passed time to say bye to paci ("pah pah" as he so gingerly calls it...) So, Friday night, when he went to sleep, was the last time he saw it. Tear. Literally. We had a few of them at naptime and at nighttime, but he made it through like a champ. When I went to check on him last night, he as holding his matchbox airplane in a death grip. Guess he's officially a big boy now.

My friend did 2 things--they had the paci fairy, like the tooth fairy, and also the mom set it up in advance but they went to the toy store and he paid for his toy--it cost 2 paci's
